CEO: “This is a topic that impacts every person in this room, and its only getting worse… it’s time to shine a light and bring resources to the table.”
Cascade, Mich. – On Wednesday, before a packed crowd of attendee inside Watermark Country Club, Cascade Community Foundation’s CEO, Justin Swan, revealed the topic of addiction as a critical focus for the Foundation’s grantmaking this fall, and their programming through the Q&A Livestream.
“In the wake of Covid, the need for anonymous services has only increased,” said Swan. “There’s an endemic here and it comes in the form of a pill, it comes in a glass, it comes on a device and it’s unrelenting.
“So today, we are making a pledge to get folks in this community the help and support they need,” added Swan. “And, we’re going to do our best to filter out the stigma that comes along with it.”
The topic was elected by CCF’s Board of Directors and staff following public feedback through SurveyCCF.com, used to better understand areas of need in Ada, Cascade and Forest Hills.
Later this Summer the Foundation will release a request-for-proposal, and invite other nonprofits to apply, while asking them to present solutions capable of providing resources anonymously.
Past topics identified through the public survey (mental health, diversity, debt, etc) have been amplified through CCF’s Q&A Livestream – an online series featuring local testimonies and topic experts.
As part of the Foundation’s Community Philanthropy Full Circle initiative, the Foundation leverages proceeds from the Joyce and Thomas Wisner Fund to expand beyond identifying topics and generating awareness.
Filming for the Q&A Livestream will begin later this summer and premiere in the fall. The subject is expected to draw personal, local, testimonies from overcomers of a variety of addictions.
