Partner Spotlight: Metro Health – University of Michigan Health

Cascade Community Foundation is honored to partner with a variety of local businesses and organizations all across Ada, Cascade, and Forest Hills to positively impact the local community. One of these businesses is Metro Health – University of Michigan Health, one of the Foundation’s Silver-level Annual Partners who joined the CCF team in 2021.

But Metro Health has been giving back to area residents long before their partnership with the Foundation began. They first began serving the greater Grand Rapids community in 1942, and have always prioritized their clients over all else. Why? The following article is the perfect synopsis of the strategy behind Metro Health – University of Michigan Health.

Metro Health Has the Cascade Community Covered

The one thing we all know about illnesses and injuries is that they don’t keep normal business hours. They often occur at the most inconvenient or difficult times. That’s why Urgent Care at Metro Health located at the Metro Health Park East campus on Cascade Rd.— is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Having urgent care in a convenient location, right off I-96, means world-class care and physicians are just a short drive away for when busy families need it.

In many situations that aren’t life-threatening, you’ll save time by going to Urgent Care instead of an emergency room. You can visit Urgent Care for situations like:

  • Low-grade fever
  • Rash
  • Sprains
  • Sore throat
  • Cold symptoms
  • Earache
  • Small lacerations
  • Eye infections

Urgent Care is there for any health concerns that need to be addressed right away and your doctor’s office is closed. In addition to expert care teams, Urgent Care offers on-site lab and x-ray services during the week.

Located next to Urgent Care at Metro Health Park East is Metro Health’s Women’s Health Center. The facility features a spa-like atmosphere that unites all OB/GYN services, advanced outpatient surgery and access to multiple health care services, all under one roof. The space offers 3D ultrasound, infertility evaluation and treatment, on-site mammography, gynecological exams, pregnancy and childbirth care, and menopausal care, along with dozens of other services.

“The Women’s Health Center is an example of our continued commitment to patient-centered care and providing convenient access to vital health services,” said Steven Lown, DO, Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “We’ve built a space where women in West Michigan have access to quality care in a comfortable and compassionate environment. Our team of gynecologists and obstetricians is committed to guiding women through their life-long health journey.”

If you’re looking for a primary care provider in the Cascade area, Metro Health has you covered with their newest outpatient office, located at 1310 E. Beltline Ave. SE, just north of Lake Drive. This office replaces a smaller clinic that used to be on Cascade Road. Upon entering the building, you’ll immediately notice its modern design and patient-centered concierge atmosphere. Nurse triage spaces provide convenient access for walk-in visits, and the office is equipped with unique self-service technology. You will have the option to self-room and self-checkout to reduce your wait time and promote safety.

“As we enter a new world of healthcare delivery, this office is an example of Metro Health’s commitment to finding new and innovative ways to deliver quality care to our patients,” says Dr. Rakesh Pai, Chief Population Health Officer and President of the Medical Group.

At 30,500 square feet, this office is now Metro Health’s largest primary care site. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 20 providers and 55 staff, caring for between 400 and 500 patients a day.

The office’s comprehensive services include family practice, sports medicine, internal medicine, behavioral health, diabetes education, x-ray and laboratory services. Additionally, with adult and pediatric heart and vascular specialists, you have the choice of seeing your cardiologist at the main hospital or the Metro Health Beltline location. Heart and vascular services offered include chest x-rays, electrocardiograms, graded exercise tests and continuous portable telemetry monitoring.

“We’re all looking forward to maintaining a relationship with our existing patients in this new location, where they will have easy access to a wider range of services,” says Dr. Edwin Kornoelje, Metro Health Beltline Site Director. “At the same time, we look forward to adding new patients to the Metro Health family.”

The office is open 7 am to 5 pm weekdays, with walk-in visits accepted. Call 616.252.1500 or visit Metro Health’s website for more information about any of their locations throughout West Michigan.
