Community Resiliency: Preparing Our Children
We are pleased to announce that for the 2014 Spring Grant Cycle, the Cascade Community Foundation has approved a grant for the American Red Cross of West Michigan for $2,500 for their Community Resiliency: Preparing Our Children program. The Community Resiliency: Preparing Our Children project is designed to address the needs of one of the most vulnerable populations in our community during a disaster – Children. This project target childcare facilities, schools and other organizations that serve children to partner with them to assist in developing comprehensive emergency response plans that address the specific needs of children during an emergency
Specifically in the Cascade Community, during the initial year of this program, the Red Cross expects to be able to work with 3 – 5 child care facilities in the Forest Hills area to guide them through the process of comprehensive preparedness planning that meets the recommendations of the 2010 National Commission on Children and Disasters. In addition, they expect to initiate conversations with the Forest Hills School district.
The Red Cross will provide a mid-year progress report and final report that will detail the number of facilities that have implemented comprehensive planning and provide updates on how much headway the project was able to make within the Forest Hills School District.
Dates of the project are July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015.
“We at the Cascade Community Foundation are so glad that someone is thinking ahead and helping to prepare all of us for an unimaginable disaster. We hope and pray that we don’t have a disaster here, but we must be responsible enough to prepare our families and our community just in case,” said Michelle Bottrall, President of the Cascade Community Foundation.
